On Tuesday 17th September we will be meeting at The Hospital Club to hear from Kiwi Women taking over the media here in London. Our evening will be headlined by Lucy Hockings BBC World Presenter and will follow with Media consultant Linda Rose interviewing the following women on our panel:

 

Megan LaneMegan Lane has been in London for 14 years, working for the BBC News website. She is production editor for the Magazine and runs the blogs of correspondents such as Robert Peston and home affairs editor Mark Easton. After three years at Wellington's Evening Post, she arrived in London at the start of the dotcom boom, when the BBC needed print journalists for its fledging news website. She returns to Wellington later this year with her English husband and daughter. http://bbc.co.uk/magazine

Abby BlackmoreAbby Blackmore, a Christchurch girl, arrived in London 5 years ago and began work at Scorch, a young production company hoping to change the way content was being made. After 3 years the company has seen exponential growth. Abby’s current role as Senior Account Manager encompasses winning new business, seeing those projects through to completion, writing proposals, and in the main part managing a team of account managers and production department. 

Rae ParsonsRae Parsons started her career as a New Zealand Registered General & Obstetric Nurse then made a switch to law having attained a law degree at Auckland University.   Rae left New Zealand in 1998 and began her career as a structured finance lawyer and went onto senior roles at Linklaters and Lehman Brothers in both London and Tokyo, eventually moving into business rather the pure legal role.   After Lehman’s insolvency Rae moved to consulting for corporates, private equity and the Lehman US administrators.   During this period Rae and a couple of friends in the film industry identified a need in the market to help film producers of select independent international film projects to raise finance.   This culminated in the creation of Xantara Film Capital, a UK limited partnership, of which Rae is a founding partner.   Xantara has 4 partners and 9 consultants who together have expertise in script analysis, film production and distribution, film finance and law.  

Hayley DouglasHayley Douglas has 10 years' experience marketing major multi-nationals like Vodafone, Gillette, Hilton Worldwide and Microsoft, with stints client-side and in PR agencies in London and Auckland. Major stories and campaigns she has worked on include everything from Gillette announcing a 'new blade' razor through to communicating changes to the state pension scheme. She also worked at Lloyds TSB during the HBOS merger and has managed crisis situations like hotel fires and natural disasters. Her current role is focused on creating an affinity for Expedia, the online travel company, by profiling the benefits it offers to hoteliers. 

Mary FenwickMary Fenwick grew up in Alexandra, Central Otago, and studied at Victoria University. Her career started with Newstalk 1ZB in Auckland, followed by Radio New Zealand in Wellington, before she worked her passage on a German container ship to London Weekend Television. That was 20 years, four children and two marriages ago. More recently she has written for The Times, the Mail on Sunday, the NZ Listener, and is the newly appointed agony aunt for Psychologies magazine.

Kate LaurenceKate Laurence has worked in the magazine industry in marketing roles for the last 6 years, beginning as the Brand Manager of NZ House & Garden and Cuisine magazines in Auckland. This is where she found her love for fast-paced, dynamic and creative environments. After moving to London 3.5 years ago, Kate worked at Hearst Magazines before moving to her current position at IPC Media as the Head of Marketing for a selection of interiors titles. A key element of her role is to oversee the diversification of print magazine brands as consumers and clients become increasingly focused on interactivity and digital.

 

Kylie GreensladeKylie Greenslade has run many corporate communications projects that have a big calling for both directing skills and creative flair.  In her current role as Executive Producer for TwoFour, she works as part of an embedded, digital media team, creating internal and external communications for the global healthcare company, GlaxoSmithKline. Prior to this, she worked for the Press Association, the news agency for UK and Ireland, and was responsible for developing key relationships with Sponsors and Agencies around all major events in the sporting calendar, including London 2012, Wimbledon and the Premier League.

 

Courtney LinnecarCourtney Linnecar is currently running her own Digital Marketing consultancy for those working in Social Enterprise and organisations creating positive change. Courtney’s background is mainly within Ecotourism and pursuing Volunteering projects abroad. She has been in London for 7 years and was ready to return home when she met her British husband.

Charlotte WhaleCharlotte Whale moved to London in 2007 to work as a producer for BBC World. After 4.5 years she moved to Qatar to work as a freelance Reporter/ Assistant Program Editor for Al Jazeera. Back in London now Charlotte is working on a freelance basis for both Al Jazeera and BBC World TV. Prior to her time abroad Charlotte worked for TVNZ on Breakfast, 6PM News, Close Up and also covered the Mumbai attacks in 2008 for TVNZ – what she describes as the most exciting but terrifying moment of her career. Charlotte has also been a travel writer for Christchurch Magazine Avenues and the New Zealand Herald.

Rebecca Roke is Editor at Foster + Partners, producing books of the highest quality for one of the largest architecture practices in the world. She is the London Correspondent for Australian journal Inside Interior Design Review. For more than a decade she has written about architecture and design for books and journals including, The Architecture Review, Casabella, and Travel + Leisure. A former Editor of leading architecture magazine Monument, her background in architecture also influences her current fascination: developing a range of high-end accessories with fair trade intent.
